Emmy winning television producer Peter Murrieta visited Nicolas Junior High and Ladera Vista Junior High Tuesday to talk about careers in show business.
“Find what you’re passionate about… Find something that you love doing so much it doesn’t feel like work, and then work really hard at it” Murrieta told the students.
But students also wanted to know other things, like “What is Selena Gomez like?” (like family), and “does David work out a lot?” (yes).
Murrieta was visiting Fullerton to inspire young people to pursue their dreams despite the odds. The talk was arranged by Fullerton School Board member Chris Thompson, a friend of Murrieta who has known him since childhood.
The talk given at Nicolas was intimate, as it was delivered to 30 students of the school’s leadership class. As part of an enrichment program effective at Ladera Vista approximately 450 students attended.
At both schools Murrieta spoke about his childhood growing up in Tucson as a first-generation, Mexican-American born into a bi-racial family. He discussed the aspirations of his youth and how he managed to get involved in such a difficult industry.
According to Ladera Vista Prinicpal John Albert, “Mr. Murrieta did a great job, the kids loved having him there and being able to ask questions.”

Thanks for the story Megan. For the Record, Peter grew up in Tuscon after the age of 12. I did not grow up in Tuscon. I grew up in Tustin.
