Pin Auction a Success

Roughly 600 people attended the 18th annual Artists’ Pin Auction last Saturday, in the Fullerton Museum Plaza.

Although the total dollar amount raised hasn’t been fully calculated, tickets sold to those entering a single auction – the Heart Opportunity drawing –  raised approximately $9000.  The prize was claimed by winner Mary Basick, who walked away with the mosaic heart, created by Fullerton artist Sue Ferrante.

This event is organized yearly by the All the Arts for All the Kids Foundation which is devoted to the preservation of the arts education in the Fullerton School District.

According to the foundation, it costs $25 to provide a student with art classes for one year, meaning at least 360 kids will benefit from the opportunity auction alone.

This year’s auction included works by various local artists and an array of music and foods donated by Fullerton restaurants.  While the event organizers had no target attendance rate they were very pleased with the turn-out. This year, they had extra help with promotional efforts by a group of volunteer PR students from Cal State Fullerton.

“The event was phenomenal,” says Caitlin Orr, All The Arts affiliate and Opportunity Heart Auction coordinator, “It’s a fun night and since it’s such a good cause there is a lot of good energy around it.”

All the Hearts for All the Kids, a project in which local artists donate a 5-by-4 foot, glass heart of their unique design, is in its second year.  This is the first year a drawing was held for one.  Auction coordinators think that it worked well and will likely hold it again next year.
