The Save Our Schools Rally started again, we are looking forward to all Fullertonians to participate and keep the schools! Welcome to Fullerton Stories
BY DBARBER |Welcome to Fullerton Stories. After a year of fits and starts, we’re finally up and running, all with the intent of serving Fullerton and the community.
I’ve always joked that in Fullerton you can’t go to the store without running into someone you know, the postal delivery people will find you wherever you may move to and if you show up to your favorite restaurant having forgotten your wallet, they’ll trust you enough to know you’ll come back to pay.
It’s all about community, and community is the fuel behind Fullerton Stories.
Let me tell you about how Fullerton Stories has come to be, who is behind it and how we expect to serve Fullerton.
First off, it’s no secret that there is no major news outlet that serves Fullerton well. The Los Angeles Times is too big to do it well, though it is still a great newspaper, despite the downturns it and all papers have suffered in recent years. The Register is much more local, but they have lost their richness in their pursuit of online readers. If you want 80 photos of who attended the Angels game, please do visit their web site. You won’t find that here.
What is missing from Fullerton is a publication that brings objective news and features to the community, celebrating our people, our heritage and our diverse discussions of right and wrong. Fullerton Stories does not aim to sway your opinion. Instead, we want to simply enrich your day or offer you information that you can use to make your own decisions.
We want your thoughts too, and ask that you participate with us. We welcome your stories, photos, videos and Letters to the Editor. By many accounts, the biggest loss during the Internet age has been credibility and accountability. For that reason we will not accept or publish submitted materials that are not accompanied with a real name that can be verified, along with a way to contact the author. I believe everyone should have a voice, but a voice without a name is meaningless.
And who am I? My name is Davis Barber, and I’ve lived in Fullerton for 20 years. My wife grew up here and for both of us it is now home, deeply rooted. I have a BA in Journalism, an MA in Communications, and I’ve worked for publications ranging from The New York Times and Time magazine, to Sunset magazine and Inline Hockey News. My parents were journalists, my wife and her parents are too. Between all of us there are over 150 years of journalism experience.
We believe that Fullerton can be and will be better served by Fullerton Stories. We’re just getting going now, of course, and we need your help to do it. We’ll follow the NPR model of user-supported income, soliciting financial contributions from individuals and companies or organizations that want to support our mission. To sponsor Fullerton Stories, please contact me at 714-525-2671, or email me at davisbarber@mac.com.
Finally, I can’t do it all myself and I need your help providing content. If you have experience as a journalist or know the difference between writing and reporting, please contact me. It is on a volunteer basis for now, though I expect to develop new sponsors and raise funds to continue publishing quality content. There is enough free stuff out there already, and we all know why it’s free. I believe that our readers will recognize that to get worthwhile information and stories they must financially contribute to make it happen.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about Fullerton Stories. Please check back with us daily as we update the site and add new features that will include pages for news, photos, videos, letters to the editor, a children’s page and calendar for you to list community events.
Please join us.
Thank you,
Davis Barber

Until now, the Fullerton Observer is the best we have. It does an admirable job, but I disagree with its use of unnamed sources, opinionated reporting and anonymous letters to the editor.
